Ah... July 4th... Fireworks, parades, cookouts, celebrations, patriotism... and the Annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest!
For the fith year in a row, Japan's Takeshi Kobayashi scarfed down the most hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes: 47
We know the runner-up well, too. She was the woman.... Yes.... Woman....who won Wing Bowl in 2004. -- Alexandria, VA's own Sonya "the Black Widow" Thomas, who downed an impressive 39 dogs herself.
Admittedly, I don't want to see competitive eating in person, though... that might gross me out just a little, but it always amazes me how small some of these competitive eaters are. On top of the fact they could do it at all -- Ms. Thomas is barely over 100 pounds and Kobayashi is about 145. (It also makes me a little jealous, given that most of that kind of food tends to go to my hips... :-p)
Gluttony at its finest... or worst... depending on how you see it... ;)
